A while ago I wrote about a fantastic film – ‘Protection’– about kids telling their stories.
Made collaboratively with children from disadvantaged areas in the Illawarra in NSW, Protection blends live action and animation into an entertaining, moving and beautiful film.
There’s a re-telling of Goldilocks – featuring a display home and a big, bad real estate agent. There’s witches, parties and a billy cart derby, and a lovely wedding to an imaginary prince (almost as spectacular as Meghan and Harry’s). And there are also stories of bullying and racism, death and grief and facing up to fears and mistakes.
Well, the film’s finished and it looks great. You can organise a viewing through FanForce – a site set up to arrange on-demand screenings at your local cinema, or you can contact the film-maker directly (phillip@be.org.au or phone/text Phil on 0427697173).
Kids, teachers, parents and anyone who’s ever been a child will find something wonderful in Protection.
